Porto and North

Porto is an old city that gave its name to Portugal and to the famous wine known worldwide: Port Wine.

With its splendid geographical location on the mouth of the river Douro and an architectural heritage of exceptional quality, the historical centre of Porto was proclaimed UNESCO’s World Heritage in 1996, while the city was elected the best European emerging destination and elected for the third time (2012, 2014 and 2017), the “Best European Destination”.

Porto is the second largest Portuguese city, noted for its commercial tradition it is also known as “Invicta”, the "unvanquished city”, title acquired from its peculiar inhabitants with strong character.

Hosting the most beautiful bookshop in the world – Lello – Porto has deserved distinctions year after year, for the recovery of its riverside area, for its museums and contemporary artistic expressions, typical and chiefs’ gastronomy and for its wide range of touristic wonders full of surprising authenticity.
